The KC Hitch is very easy to tie and in this example, slick nylon braid grips easily onto a high gloss chrome tube. The KC Hitch will easily grip and hold fast even on a taper.  The Hitch was 'invented' by DerekSmith and first published on the IGKT Forum in September 2006 (see Forum topic 3934 ).  The hitch has a fore runner in the  garter wrap described by Ashley in ABOK 1755 which is tied and used fully expanded and so does not utilise the anchor functionality of the unopened turns necessary to grip slick surfaces.

Start by holding the end at roughly 45 degrees to the shaft.

Wrap the end around the shaft in an open helix.

For most surfaces three turn is sufficient. If the friction is low as in this example take four or five turns to ensure there is enough opening sections to leave at least one section closed. Then wrap back down the shaft crossing neatly in the front and at the back.

Fasten the ends together with an overhand knot.

Slide the coils up together taking the slack out of the KC by keeping tension on the ends as you slide the coils closed.

Finish the KC with a second overhand knot.

Now apply the load. The first coil will start to open up, in doing so it increases the length of the wrap and creates tension in all the coils. Keep applying the load and make sure that at least the last two coils remain closed, these are the anchor turns and they must not have any load on them in the direction of the load otherwise they could be forced to slip.

The KC Sling Hitch

Easier to tie and a gentler grip on the shaft, use a loop and simply pass the end of the loop through the start of the loop to finish the KC.
