The Road Map to achieving the IGKT Mission Statement.

All interested parties are invited to contribute to this Road Map to create the detail necessary for the IGKT Officers to create a working plan to achieve the goal.

The IGKT Mission

1. To promote the art, craft and science of knotting, its study and practice

2. To undertake research into all aspects of knotting.

3. To establish an authoritative body for consulting purposes.

The Road Map

Massively increase Membership

  • Create a Mebership Subgroup in every participating country. Share methods and ideas via a Wiki page.
  • Identify new membership streams - Industrial, Safety, Trainers, University, Clubs - List specific examples here - Fire, ambulance, rescue, Army, Navy, W.I., Cadets, Scouts/Guides .....

- give or set a greatly reduced membership cost for scouts/guides/cubs/brownies/sparks/etc.

- perhaps a junior or associate membership (give them an email knotting matters vs paper to differentiate and keep costs down?)

- reach out to allied guilds/crafts: in particular, i think there is a ropemaking group. also the braid society. probably there are climbing and fishing groups and a host of sailing groups.

- i have mentioned before and i will say again that there are decorative knotting groups in Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and probably China as well. I have unverified information about Korea and Taiwan...

  • Find funding champions, expert in the details of funding from their sectors, and get them on board.

Advertise the Guild and Knots

  • Appoint an advertising subgroup and share methods and ideas.
  • Identify routes which could increase membership and/or funding - schools, clubs, uni's, ...
  • Create and implement targetted promotional activities. Review and feed back to other country groups.
  • Promote knots into fashion, home, lifestyle ....

Create Active Guild Subgroups

  • Audit membership for interest in specific Guild Subgroups - Safety, Ornamental, Research ....
  • Break down the Guild structure into active, independently managed subgroups - The Guild of Ornamental Knot Tyers, The Guild of Knotting Science/math, The Guild of Knotting Safety and Strength, Specific Usertype guilds, The Guild of Cord Makers and Knotters, The Guild of Knotting History and Lore ...
  • Establish Mission statements relevant to every Guild Subgroup
  • Create and Promote each Subgroup into the relevant fields.
